Note that the post below is not 100% accurate APA. The article selected was a study about examining the validity of the Self-Appraisal Questionnaire (SAQ), which is a questionnaire used for predicting violent and nonviolent recidivism (Andreu-Rodriguez, Pena-Fernandez, and Loza, 2016). Other questionnaires were used in this study to determine concurrent validity as well. The study was conducted with 267 males in different prisons throughout Spain. The results indicated the SAQ had moderate and high correlations with the other two questionnaires used. Concurrent validity was proven with correlations found using the Pearson correlation coefficients between the measures (Andreu-Rodriguez et al., 2016). As far as the SAQ predicting recidivism, the study determined the questionnaire can accurately predict violent and nonviolent recidivism with the use of the receiving operator characteristic (ROC) curve. The ROC showed an area under the curve (AUC) of .80 with the SAQ total score (Andreu-Rodriguez et al., 2016). This study is a quantitative study. A quantitative study uses questionnaires, statistical analysis, and a more systematic way of measuring behaviors (Stangor, 2013). This study used multiple questionnaires, an interview, and data analysis. All the data acquired was based off hard correlations instead of subjective analysis. To make this study a qualitative one could include just going over the criminal records of the participants to decide if recidivism would occur if released. This would involve no interaction with the participant at all. A qualitative study is one that does not use statistical analysis, it is descriptive research (Stangor, 2013). Another way could be for the authors to observe the participants in their prison environment, and base their predictions off the way they interact with each other. They could also interview the prisoners to see if they have been doing anything to improve themselves for when they get out. Andreu-Rodríguez, J. M., Peña-Fernández, M. E., & Loza, W. (2016).
