Read Frederick Douglasss Narrative of the Life of Frederi

Read Frederick Douglass’s Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave. It can be found here: http://etext.virginia.edu/toc/modeng/public/DouNar… After reading the autobiography, consider some of the following questions as you write your essay: What were the conditions that Douglass experienced as a boyWhat was the family life of the slaves and their relationship with their masters / owners like? What was the condition of their clothing and their food? What was surprising in these chapters? What was most disturbing? How did Douglass’s life change when he was moved from the plantation to Baltimore.Did his life get better or worse? How did the experiences of Douglass compare to the previous readings on colonial labor? What was similar, what was different? Note:You do not necessarily have to address every single question listed. You must develop a thesis statement. The thesis statement should be in the first paragraph and is usually the first or last sentence in that paragraph. The thesis statement is the roadmap for the rest of the paper, telling the reader where you are going. There should be a minimum of three key points to a thesis. In this exercise, your thesis could be the something like ‘In comparing Frederick Douglass’s experiences as a slave to conditions of earlier colonial labor, there are differences in terms of X, Y, and Z,” where X, Y, and Z are the key points you will be developing with your evidence (see rubric below for more on evidence). One way to compare the slaves and the indentured servants would be in terms of how they interacted with their masters (X), how they saw themselves (Y), and how they lived (Z). Give specific examples to support your responses. You must cite your examples.I will provide examples on how to do citations. THE ‘RULE OF THREE’ You will need to use an analytical writing style in this class. The basic form of analytical writing utilizes the ‘Rule of Three.’Simply, there should be at least three key points/pieces of evidence in a piece of writing introduced by a strong clear thesis. Another way of thinking about it is that there should be at least three paragraphs after the introduction:one paragraph for each of the main points you are writing about. You must support your points with specific examples drawn from Douglass and the various primary sources on colonial labor (at least three). Your paper should be about three to five (3 to 5) pages; this is approximately 1,000 to 1,800 words.(For example, this instruction document is about 950 words). The essay should be double spaced.Proper spelling, grammar, syntax are all required.Do not use contractions (“don’t,” “can’t,”, ‘wasn’t,” “it’s,” etc.). Outside research is not required, but if you do use your text book or any other resource be sure to cite it.Failure to cite your reference is plagiarism.Plagiarism is academic dishonesty and is subject to punishment. Cheating is simply not worth it.At the very least, it will result in a ZERO grade on this assignment.
