    Instructions Read Chapters 7 and 8 in Critical Thinking: A Student’s Introduction. As you read these chapters, think about the last time you attempted to persuade someone to agree to some action. Were your arguments valid? Were they good? Review the Writing a Critical Essay assignment on pages 209 through 218 in the Critical Thinking: A Student’s Introduction textbook. Review the sample selection and critical essay in the Chapter 8 Appendix on pages 219 through 224. Select one of the selections on page 210-218 and write a critical essay that includes the following four elements: Introduction: Identify the title, author, and context of the selection you are critically evaluating. Summarize very briefly the writer’s basic position and state in general terms your overall evaluation of the argument. Argument summary: Standardize the writer’s argument using the five step method presented in Chapter 7. Critical evaluation: Evaluate the argument; that is, say whether you think the argument is a good, convincing argument and give reasons to support your view. Keep in mind the list of questions on page 209 of the textbook in your response. Conclusion: Briefly restate the key points of your critical response to reinforce them in the reader’s mind. End with a strong concluding line that nicely sums up your response or puts the issue in a larger context. Each of the four components should demonstrate clear, insightful critical thinking. The total length of the paper should be 800 to 1000 words. Your paper should use proper spelling, grammar, and APA formatting.
