Materials Clear glass jar or drinking glassSmall plate or bowl to be a ‘lid’ jar or drinking glassWaterIce cubesHot tap water Procedure Put hot tap water to fill about ¼ of the glass jar.Fill the pate or bowl with ice and place on top of the jar.Observe the inside of the jar every 5 minutes for 30 minutes; after 30 minutes, carefully remove the ‘lid’ and look at the underside. Post-Lab Questions: Which water cycle processes are represented in this model and by what components?Which processes are not represented? How could the model be altered to include these processes?How would the “weather” be affected if the water was at a decreased temperature? What about at an increased temperature? How could you model these changes in this system? Experiment 2: Assessing Infiltration In this experiment you will observe how entrapped water moves from land to the atmosphere and determine how weather conditions affect this movement. Materials (2) 9 x 12 in. sealable bags250 mL Beaker (in lab kit)250 mL Sand200 mLWaterA sunny location (window sill, outside porch, etc.)A shady location Procedure: Measure 250 mL sand in each plastic re-sealable bag.Measure 200 mL room temperature water in each bag.Seal each bag, leaving a bit of air in each.Place 1 bag in a sunny location and 1 bag in a shady location.Observe the bags after 1 hour, then again after 12 hours. Post-Lab Questions: What formed on the inside of the bags? What parts of the water cycle are represented in this experiment?What condition showed the greatest change?
